I hit Ancient India on the poll but honestly I find all of your posts interesting. I am fascinated with all things cultural and historical. I'll be curious how you find the sections to work out. I need to do some work on my home page and I am very reticent to create sections because I feel like it might pigeon hole readers into one category of posts. Thank you for the mention, too!

Hi Pamela, I wrote a reasoning in response to Doug's excellent insights that probably should go under a strategy article on TechMadeSimple :-) but I will still split Business out and perhaps wait on Ancient India. Thank you for this feedback, as it is difficult to gauge at times which resonates more. It confirms what most people have voted for on the poll.

I do like the way you set up your sections. It was not what I envisioned. I was looking at changing my home page a couple of weeks ago and when I looked at Sections it was different. I need to go back in and look again. Thank you, Jayshree!

I have mostly tags and one section and intend another. I wrote about organizing content in TMS maybe that can be helpful.

Hi Jayshree, thank you for the consistently engaging content, and also your recent work on new features for the publication. I am interested in ALL the story types you list above and based on the responses to date it looks like others are, too. I think the ones that are most interesting to me are when you mention how current religious beliefs and customs, and societal values, are illustrated through stories and allegories. And also your personal experiences like the horse shoes and schooling,

Thanks, Doug; this is very helpful. I appreciate your confirmation as well. I was torn between keeping it as it is and splitting it, so people who aren't into the spiritual side of life can still benefit without feeling obligated to read the mythological stories but then without those, as you so rightly surmised, it is difficult to understand the underlying culture. Perhaps I can revisit it in a few months, based on how things go and how the poll performs. Sections are a bit challenging to manage on the platform anyway.

Hi Jayshree, a couple of thoughts. First, if someone doesn't like to read posts on a specific topic, they can always just skip over them. No one is going to like everything, so I don't think content necessarily needs to be limited or separated just on that basis. One of the distinctive strengths of helloIndia is in fact the diversity of topics. Further, maybe a chance exposure to a topic a person doesn't think they like will actually spark some interest in it. You never know! But like you say, it does make sense to revisit it periodically and keep an eye on the comments..

That is true. I should have been wiser to run the poll first and ask everyone what they thought rather than announce I will spilt Ancient India, lol. The other concern I had was frequency, I do write more on Ancient India, and I felt it may overwhelm some readers, but if they choose to subscribe to Ancient India, then it is ok if they receive more on this topic :-) Also, it occurred to me based on your comment, that magazines carry diverse topics, and readers can choose to skip what doesn't interest them.

You were right in your premise, Doug, as the highest poll % is for 'All of the Above.' My concern is the rest of the readership that is not active online, has not weighed in at all.

The way I figured the splits would be ok is because:

1. All new subscribers are automatically signed in to all sections; and unless they unsubscribe up front, they will see all the content. Free Reads will carry samples of all topics but has to be accessed online with occasional email nudges.

2. Existing subscribers have to unsubscribe from a section to stop seeing those posts and if they don't then nothing should change for them.

3. Paid subscribers will see all of the sections unless they unsubscribe, which again gives feedback on their interests.

3. With sections, when someone wishes to unsubscribe, they get to choose sections to retain or unsubscribe from rather than the whole publication if frequency or topic is a concern.

It is true, my overheads have gone up! So is it worth moving Ancient India out, not sure. I suppose I can limit the sectioning first to Business India, and see how it performs.

Hi Jayshree, OK, I wasn't clear on some of the details on the splits that you mention below. It actually sounds like it would address my comments and not make anyone unhappy, right?

I think so, Doug! But I still agree with your overall view so I think testing and revisiting it is a good idea.
